To our Facebook Friends:
We regret to inform you that we are leaving Facebook. Here’s why: Our humble little Facebook Shop was targeted by someone with a grudge and too much time on their hands. Some of our items were flagged for being inappropriate - as if a piece of Depression glass or an Egyptian tapestry were advertisements for the world’s oldest profession. The insinuation is both absurd and disgusting, and we reckon that this is 2018, as well.
We rectified the flagged products with Facebook, who is steadfastly working to remove them. Facebook was, however, unable to provide us with enough security to continue keeping our Shop up on their platform. Our business will no longer have to jump through hoops so that some other loser can do this from her mother’s basement just because someone made her angry at some point in time.
This attack on The Curio of Norfolk, LLC happened on the same day that Facebook caught flack for their complicit support of groups like Infowars - who propagate pure lies that hurt people. Yes, yes. Free speech. We appreciate all there is to love about the First Amendment and many other Amendments to the Constitution, but allowing a platform for harassment and defamation of character is something for which we cannot stand. Just because Facebook stands for nothing does not mean that we do not.
Let’s be really social: Stop by our store at 2606 Granby Street in Norfolk, Virginia. We are open Tuesday through Saturday 10-5 and Sundays 12-4. If you are more of a late night shopper, you can shop on our website: www.the-curio.com.
To clarify, we sell antiques.
