This silk handkerchief was a souvenir from the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Highlights the flags of the larger countries that participated. It is hard to miss one red, black, and white flag in particular. This unsettling piece is put in perspective when juxtaposed with German photo cards from the same games in The Curio of Norfolk's collection, especially one photo of Jesse Owens's name being carved into stone (of course with his name missing from the German description...). Minor wear and fraying inside corners, but binding is intact. The handkerchief measures 10 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. and weighs less than 1/4 oz. German, 1936.
