Brass and enamel brooch with blond braided human hair. Hair is framed in beveled glass with black enamel and brass around it. With a simple c-clasp.
Most likely a piece of Victorian era mourning jewelry. During periods of mourning, the acceptable color to wear was, of course, black, and sumptuousness was to be avoided. Hair from loved ones was cut and kept in remembrance. Each hair jewelry piece is unique, which lends to the collectible nature of this beautiful example.
It measures 2 x 1 1/2 and weighs 3/4 oz.
