Gold brooch with braided blond human hair. Framed with black enamel and brass. Most likely a piece of mourning jewelry. Acceptable colors were of course black, and sumptuousness was to be avoided. Each hair jewelry piece is unique, which lends to the collectible nature of these pieces. It measures and weighs 2 x 1 1/2 and 3/4 oz. France, c.1850.
