Large Napoleon III era Roswell type stereo-graphoscope or tabletop stereoscope with black lacquer relief. Most likely French from the 1860s or 1870s. Relief includes a cameo of a woman's face in profile, acanthus, and flowers. This is a Z-box type device. The lacquered box has beveled edges. The middle layer can be propped up to adjust the height with a scrollworked support. Graphoscope and stereoscope lenses panel in the top lid. Interior panel lifts to hold a stereoscope card. Panel slides on a panel attached to grooves on the sides of the box. Graphoscope lens has two chips on the left side. Stereoscope lenses are in good condition and both graphoscope and stereoscope are in working condition. Some wear to the exterior, but overall in good condition. It measures 10 3/4 H x 7 W x 4" D when closed. Weighs 3 lbs. 2 oz.
