Dutch glass slides set of Beatrix Potter story "The Pie and the Patty-Pan." Printed slides with hand coloring, by D. Van Kreveld, c.1910s to 1920s. Slides for a magic lantern or projector. Slides numbered 1 through 23 with 6 doubles. Total of 29 slides. Note that doubles are all painted differently.
"Pastei en Pasteipan" (Dutch for "Pie in the Piepan"). The word "pastei" is similar to the English word for the handheld pie "pastie."
About a tea party between a cat named Ribby and a pomeranian dog Duchess, involving switching out of pies and a mishap with a pie pan. Beatrix Potter first published this story in 1905. She said that this was her second favorite story, second only to "The Tailor of Gloucester."
One slide is cracked but still intact. Some wear and scratches on all slides, as can be expected from age and use.
Each slide measures about 3 1/4 x 3 1/4 x 1/8". Together the slides weigh 2 lbs. 12 oz.
