Unusual set of glass slides about children's story "Piet de Smeerpoets" (Dutch for "Shockheaded Peter"). In original cardboard and fruitwood box from the Netherlands in the mid 19th century. From the "City-Serie," No. 32. Made in Amsterdam. Twenty-three slides numbered 1 through 24.
Includes original pamphlet with descriptions of the story on each slide in Dutch. Glass slides are silver on a clear background.
Based on a German book by author Heinrich Hoffmann in 1848, translated into Dutch. Slides tell the story of a sloppy, naughty young boy named Piet. The moral of the story is to never be like Piet.
Box, slides, and pamphlet are in very good condition. Slide 1 has a scratch across the front. A few slides have tiny chips on the edges. Slide number 4 is missing. Some minor wear on box, and one corner is loose. Otherwise, in very good shape.
Each slide measures 3 1/4 H x 3 1/4 W x 1/16" D. Box measures 3 1/2 H x 3 7/8 W x 8" D. Box and slides together weigh 1 lb. 9 oz.
