FitzRoy won a gold medal from the Royal Geographical Society in 1837, when this book for the society was published. He had just returned from the HMS Beagle's second voyage with Darwin.
In very good condition. Some fading on the spine and the tops of the cover. Some leather is stripped from the bottom right hand corner of the front cover. A bit of wear on the corners but overall the covers are in good shape. A bit of foxing on pages, especially on the flyleaves. Map has a one and a half inch rip on the fold but is otherwise clean. The great majority of pages are very clean.
