Glass Contact Lenses in Case, c.1930s

Unsettlingly large glass contact lenses in a lined brown case. Contacts are clear and intact. Case lining in a bit loose. This case is an early one from Dr. Richard Golden, O.D., which was situated in The National Bank Building of Detroit, MI.

Dr. Golden eventually went on to found D.O.C., a chain of eyeglasses stores. When the company was sold to Italian eyewear company Luxottica, it had the number ten spot in the share of the American market. Luxottica operates LensCrafters and Pearle Vision in the United States. Golden's son has since launched SEE, Inc., the hip glasses store both online and in storefront boutiques in chic locations.

American, early 20th century.

Contact dimensions are 7/8 inches in diameter. Case is 3 1/4 x 1 1/4 x 3/4 inches.   Weighs 1.5 oz.
