Stunning silver and yellow gold triple cameo necklace with orientalist filigree. Cameos are permanently attached to the necklace by the filigree. Two inverted triangles and one frame of leaf shapes surround the cameos. Marked "15 GE 900."
The origin of the word cameo is unknown, but the Oxford Etymology Dictionary states that this word is "prob[ably] ult[imately] of Oriental orig[in]." This design was all the rage in the Victorian era - given Europeans' interests at this time in exploring far-off lands.
The chain is 15 1/2 inches long, and each cameo in its filigree frame is approximately 1 inch high. The cameos themselves are about 1/2 inch high. The necklace weighs 1/4 oz.
