Print of a famous Farnese Hercules statue, with measurements to show what was considered the "perfect" proportions of the male body. From the mid-1700s. This Hercules statue is the one seen in a famous engraving by Albrecht Durer... from a very different angle (behind and below the buttocks).
Labeled "DESSEIN" and Plate "6." Most likely after Gerard Audran, a French engraver (1640-1703), in Charles-Ange Boily's 1763 book Dessein on drawing the human form. Matted with thin, cardstock mat with gold outline around the window. Measures 16 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches. Weighs 3/4 oz.
