Eighteenth-century anatomy diagram print of hip bones. Top reads "Plate XV." Bottom reads faintly "Chailly del." and "Devisée Seul." This print is from Jean Louis Beaudelocque's work on obstetrics and childbirth for midwives, L'Art des Accouchemens, the 1796 edition. The diagram shows a malformed pelvis in order to consider complications during childbirth.
After this work was published, Beaudelocque was appointed the personal physician for Napoleon's wife and sister.
Matted with thin, cardstock mat with gold outline around the window. Print is folded and creased vertically in several places and has one raw edge, indicating it was a pull-out image in a larger book.
Measures 16 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches. Weighs 3/4oz.
